If you have downloaded images for CDs, DVDs or Blu-ray discs and want to use them, you can either burn them to CD, DVD as well as Blu-ray, or Virtual CloneDrive to use. Virtual CloneDrive creates virtual drives that mount image files for CD, DVD or Blu-ray. Burning with CDBurnerXP, ImgBurn or Nero Burning ROM can therefore be omitted, which saves time and money, since Virtual CloneDrive for Windows eliminates the costs for a burnable CD, DVD or Blue-ray and access to the data contained in the image is faster than via a CD, DVD or Blu-ray drive.
Create virtual drives
The handling of Virtual CloveDrive is quite simple, because you only have to open the desired image file with a double click and the freeware mounts it automatically in a virtual drive. It can then be accessed as if a physical CD, DVD, or Blu-ray disc were in the drive. Accordingly, virtual drives can provide all the data contained on the image, such as for audio, video, photo, programs or Office. You can remove the image normally in the Explorer by right-clicking on the respective virtual drive and then selecting “Eject” in the opened context menu. Alternatively, Virtual CloneDrive offers a “Remove Image File” function in the system tray, which has the same effect.
Number of drives and supported formats
In Virtual CloneDrive you can create up to 15 different virtual drives under Windows at the same time. In this case, images can no longer be mounted simply by double-clicking, because otherwise it will be mounted into the first drive and the mounted one will be ejected before. Via the context menu, which can be accessed by right-clicking on the image file, the desired drive letter can be selected for mounting. This can be done with the function “Load image file”. By the way, Virtual CloneDrive can not only mount the common ISO images. In addition, the program can handle files in the formats BIN, IMG, UDF, DVD and CCD.
Additional information and functions
For the installation of the tool administrator rights for the Windows computer are necessary, since Virtual CloneDrive takes over relevant system tasks. This is also the reason why there is no portable version of the program. Virtual CloneDrive can be used in various languages regardless of the operating system language. In addition to German and English, we also offer French, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Swedish. You can also instruct the program to automatically mount the last mounted image again on startup, or to create a history of the last image files used. Virtual CloneDrive can be integrated into the task bar. The corresponding icon of the freeware allows you to access it at any time and manage virtual drives and mounted images.
