Video Converter is like sand on the sea. Many are commercially or as free Freeware only limited usable. hand brake is one of the exceptions, because the software is not only freeware, but also open source.
Converts Videos and Audios
The converter converts video and audio files into the formats h.264, h.265, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and Theora respectively AAC, MP3 and Vorbis. In addition to files, the open source software can handle CD, DVD and Blu-ray discs if no copy protection is available and supports AppleTV. The freeware transfers either all video files or individual chapters if required.
Video filters and subtitles
Besides the pure conversion of media files Handbrake offers among others the video filters Deinterlacing, Detelecine, Denoise and Grayscale. The frame rate can be both flexible and static, which allows handbrake by supporting both variable frame rate (VFR) and constant frame rate (CFR). The Video Converter also takes subtitles into account and can handle VobSub, Closed Captions CEA-608, SSA and SRT formats.
Handbrake is available for the Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems and also runs on Apple TV. For Windows and macOS the usual setup files are available for the installation. If you use Ubuntu, you can add the Personal Package Archive (PPA) to your system. You can also download the source code from GitHub.
