Every now and then it is necessary to create photos or screenshots from the desktop. Photograph screen completely or in parts
With Greenshot, the user can set whether he wants to take screenshots of individual windows, a section or the entire desktop interface with the screenshot software and first save them to the clipboard. Scrollable screen contents of web pages can also be photographed to create a screenshot. Whether the mouse pointer should appear on the screenshot or not is up to the user of the software for Microsoft Windows. The Print button displays a crosshair on the Windows desktop, making it easier to take pictures of the content.
Edit and save screenshots
Once the photo has been created from the desktop, it can be edited directly with Greenshot. Via an editor texts and comments can be added to the screenshot. In addition, Greenshot makes selected image areas unrecognizable, so that data protection is maintained when the desktop photo is shared. Finally, the screenshot has to be saved, whereby Greenshot offers several file formats for selection. These include PNG, JPG, BMP, TIFF and the program’s own Greenshot format.
PDF is not supported by the screenshot software. If you want to save a screenshot as a PDF after taking a picture and editing it, you have to go through another application like Gimp or use a virtual PDF printer. This can be selected under Windows 10 via “File > Send to Printer”. If you have Windows XP or Windows 7, you must first install a virtual PDF printer such as FreePDF. Alternatively you can upload and share screenshots to social networks like flickr or Imgur.
Open Source Screenshot Tool for Windows
Greenshot is open source software under the GPL and is available as freeware for Windows free of charge. The software for Windows supports several languages, which can be downloaded and installed from the manufacturer’s site via the corresponding XML language file for Greenshot. If you prefer English or German, this is not necessary because both languages are already integrated.
Greenshot requires an installed .NET Framework 2.0, 3.5 or 4. Under Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 it may happen that Greenshot does not recognize the installed .NET Framework. In this case, you just skip the message.
