Although many activities and storage options are moving to the cloud today, physical media are still important for data protection. To be able to burn data to CD, you naturally need the appropriate software to write the data carriers. Here you can for example CDBurnerXP – a completely free firing program. The freeware can not only handle different types of media – CD, DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-ray – but also burn them as pure media with files or as ready-to-play audio and video discs.
The install version contains adware that can download malware. We therefore recommend the portable version of CDBurnerXP, which is available from us via the “Download” button.
CDBurnerXP does not only support the CD
In order to burn data to disk, you need, in addition to the appropriate burner hardware, of course also appropriate data carrier blanks. Here CDBurnerXP can handle not only the “classics” CDs and DVDs but also the “newcomers” HD-DVDs and Blu-rays. Bootable media can also be created. Alternatively, you can also have the program create ISO image files. You can then burn them at a later time – or mount them into a virtual drive with the appropriate software and make them run. Since the software also supports ISO-9660, it checks burned discs after the write process is complete and determines whether all data has “arrived” correctly. CDBurnerXP can also be used to copy CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays that are not copy-protected and to delete rewritable CDs and DVDs to burn data onto them again. If you want to burn video DVDs that should run directly on DVD, HD-DVD or Blu-ray players, the software can also do this – you can also create DVD menus and the like beforehand. If you want to write audio CDs, you can also specify, for example, how long the pauses between the individual tracks should be. When writing audio CDs, CDBurnerXP can handle the file formats MP3, WAV, OGG, FLAC, WMA, APE, MPC, WV (WavPack) and ALAC (Apple Lossless).
Simple operation via GUI
The operation of CDBurnerXP is quite intuitive and simple thanks to the graphical user interface, which offers many icons. The program uses itself like a usual file manager – files can be selected simply by Drag&Drop and moved “on” the data medium which can be described. The most important functions are also easily accessible in the form of icons. Using the options menu you can change the language from German to English, Turkish, Spanish and Polish. Settings for parameters such as audio discs or the like can also be made here.
Take away burning software
CDBurnerXP is available for download in several different versions for Windows. In addition to standard, minimal and MSI installation files for 32-bit and 64-bit Windows systems, the burning software is available as a portable version in a ZIP file. This version requires no installation and can be started directly from removable media such as a USB stick or SD card. So you can also burn music and MP3 files on CDs and DVDs on other computers, for example, if a CD or DVD burner is connected.
Alternatives to CDBurnerXP
CDBurnerXP includes important functions for burning data to CD, DVD and Blu-ray and is therefore a must-have software for Windows PCs. But those who miss functions can also fall back on alternatives. Nero Burning ROM is a comprehensive software for burning CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays, which is available for purchase and which masters video disc structures. Free open source software includes BwgBurn and InfraRecorder, which can also be downloaded as a portable version InfraRecorder Portable.
